St. Luke Rosary Society
About
The purpose of the St. Luke Rosary Society is to enable members to grow spiritually and socially through the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. It also promotes praying of the Rosary, our primary devotion.
The only mandatory requirement for members of the Rosary Society is to pray one decade of the Rosary while meditating on one assigned Mystery every day, a five-minute daily routine. There are eight optional business meetings each year and members have the option to participate in various committees. Annual St. Luke Rosary Society membership dues are $10.00.
St. Luke Rosary Society Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month from March through June and September through December at the Faith Formation Building room 103 on the St. Aloysius Campus, at 6:30 p.m. The St. Luke Rosary Society sponsors Rosary services throughout the liturgical year, open to all parishioners and guests.
The beginnings of modern Rosary Societies date back to the mid-1800s, when groups of Catholic women started gathering at churches to take care of the altar linens and clean the sanctuary. These women recited the Rosary together before their meetings. Although modern Rosary Society activities have changed over the past 150 years, those who make up modern Rosary Societies still share the same devotion to God, Mary, and their parish and strive to exemplify a Christian way of life by dedicating their time and resources through Word, Worship, and Service under the direction of a parish priest. In all its variations, Rosary Societies bear in common the practice of a group of people representing the prayers of the Rosary, and sharing in praying the Rosary together.
With parish reorganization in 2023 the St. Luke Rosary Society is now open to all members of the Christian Faith, both men and women, of all ethnicities, from all Southington churches and beyond.
