About

Christ asks us to be his hands and feet, and his voice, here on earth.  The homebound ministry is a wonderful way to do that, literally bringing the body of Christ to those who would not otherwise be able to receive the sacrament, and helping to build community by keeping those who are unable to attend mass with the rest of us engaged with the parish.  Volunteers bring the Eucharist to 250 or more parishioners who are unable to be physically present at mass due to illness or injury, and remind them that they are not alone or forgotten.  God remembers them, of course, and so do we.  Whether they are in their own homes or in one of the five healthcare centers in Southington, they are grateful not only to be able to receive communion, but enjoy also to enjoy prayer, a smile, and a few minutes of conversation with someone who is not a caregiver of some kind.  For some, the Eucharistic Minister may be the only personal rather than professional visitor they receive.  Some of our Eucharistic Ministers make visits on a weekly basis, others monthly, some on the weekends and some during the week.
