Altar Servers
About
In August of 2022, Pope Francis met with over 2500 young altar servers and is quoted as telling them the following:
“You have chosen to be ministers, and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the efforts, and sometimes the sacrifices, that you accept in order to devote yourselves to this commitment as ministers, while many of your other friends prefer to sleep in on Sunday mornings or play sports…”
“Don’t be ashamed to serve the Altar, even if you are alone, even if you are growing up. It is an honor to serve Jesus when he gives his life for us in the Eucharist.”
Altar servers perform a very important role in the Mass. You will assist the priest as he leads worship and by doing so you will help the congregation to pray and focus their hearts and minds on God. Serving at the altar is an act of service to God and to the congregation.
Requirements
Any child or teenager who has received their First Holy Communion is eligible to become an Altar Server. We will have training sessions throughout the year.
Commitment
After the initial training session, you will be scheduled to serve typically 2 times per month. Your mass preferences will determine your child’s mass assignment.
